PITTSBURGH — A 50-unit apartment building is coming to Hazelwood Green, according to an announcement by the developer.
The building will be five stories and 40 of the apartments will be affordable housing with 13 of those going to single parents attending college.
“We want development to happen with people, not to people and with communities and not to communities,” said Diamonte Walker, CEO of Pittsburgh Scholars. “We work with them to get their degree. We address transportation, housing and childcare issues so they can focus on the degree and they have a safe place to live while they do it. And what better place than the Hazelwood Green for that to begin to happen?”
According to the developer, the building will include retail space, a community center and a fitness center.
The building is set to open in 2027, and be the first of many developments on the same block.
