The needs and aspirations of Pittsburgh Scholar House families are at the core of what we do. The WayFinders Program, Pittsburgh Scholar House’s flagship program provides economic empowerment, family enrichment, and academic support through a cohort-based model.
While enrolled in the WayFinders Program, families are given a strong start to ensure they are well-positioned to start and finish a degree program while being incorporated into a dynamic community of scholars with common goals, aspirations, and parental responsibilities.
While some single parent families face unique challenges related to housing and food insecurity, limited childcare and transportation access, and income stagnation, these factors do not overshadow the values, drive, and motivation they have to change the trajectory of the family’s economic reality. By creating a scholastic community of peer support and guided mentor-ship, the Pittsburgh Scholar House ensures socioeconomic gains made by the primary generation are realized by the next generation.
