Supportive Housing Communities for Single-Parenting College Students and their Children
Are you a single-parent college student in need of affordable housing? See if you are eligible for Pittsburgh Scholar House’s Housing Program.
Eligibility
To qualify for the Housing Program, you must meet all of the following nine criteria:
- Be currently enrolled full-time in a degree-granting program.
- Be a single parent with full custody of children under the age of 18.
- Have earned a high school diploma or GED.
- Have at least one year of study left before graduating with your degree.
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better.
- Meet income eligibility guidelines for a housing voucher through the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh.
- Be willing to undergo the application and verification process as required and conducted by the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh, including a criminal background check.
- Be willing to sign a Program Agreement that outlines the roles and responsibilities of participating in the Pittsburgh Scholar House’s Housing Program.
Documentation
Prior to completing the application, gather all required documentation as listed below:
- Head of Household’s State-issued Photo ID or Driver’s License (must be current)
- Social Security Cards for all Household Members
- Birth Certificates for all Household Members
- Proof of income for all family members, including (as applicable):
- Income from Employment
- Income from Self-Employment
- Income from 1099 Contract Work
- Unemployment Compensation
- Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, Social Security Disability, and/or Survivors Benefits
- Public assistance payments, including TANF, WIC and SNAP
- Child Support paid to the family
- Regular monthly contributions to the family by a third party (example: your parents send you $200 a month for groceries)
- Proof of earning a High School Diploma or GED
- Proof of full-time enrollment in a degree-granting program which should include:
- An unofficial transcript, and
- A copy of your current or forthcoming semester schedule
