NEXTpittsburgh: 10 major developments we’re watching in 2025

January 9, 2025

In 2025, plan for traffic no matter the trip. From Moon to Sharpsburg and everywhere in between, major construction is set to start or already in progress in many of Pittsburgh’s hotspots.

Hazelwood Green’s first residential development will be on Lytle Street across from The Park Plaza. It is set to break ground next year. Image courtesy of Tishman Speyer and TREK Development.

Housing at Hazelwood Green

New housing isn’t just springing up along the Allegheny, though. In October, TREK Development announced a long-awaited apartment building on the Hazelwood Green site. The plans call for 33 one-bedroom and 17 two-bedroom units, most of which will be affordable — their rent will not exceed 30% of the household’s income — or exclusively available to single parents pursuing college degrees, thanks to project partner Pittsburgh Scholar House.

TREK expects to begin construction this year, and the apartments will be ready for tenants in 2027. These 50 apartments are the first of the 3,000 and 4,000 total units that Tishman Speyer, the developer for the entire Hazelwood Green project, expects to be available on the site.
